'Been on the roof for 28 years'

Winans Dakwerken specializes in the supply and installation of bituminous and plastic roofing, insulations, substructures and all types of roof penetrations, daylight constructions and details. The success story of the Overijssel-based company began in 1993, when founders Harjo Wind, Klaas ten Napel and Ferdie Prins went together to the Chamber of Commerce in Meppel. At that time, they could not guess where the company stands in 2021....

All activities under one roof

The name Winans is a derivative of the last names of the three founders WInd, ten NApel and PriNS. The latter left the company in 1999 and returned in 2007 as a work planner. Today, Winans Dakwerken employs about 50 people, who work actively and passionately every day to bring a wide variety of roofing projects to a successful conclusion. "Our ambition is still to operate as the partner for professional roofing systems in today's market," says Harjo Wind. "For several years now we have been based in Blokzijl, where we house all our activities under one roof. This allows us to serve clients even better and more completely, in all their projects."

Changing climate requires new techniques

In recent years, roofing systems have become increasingly complex, Wind acknowledges. Partly as a result of climate change. "As an organization, we closely follow new and sustainable techniques in this area. Our extensive product range underlines this. For example, with our green roofs, water retention roofs, energy roofs and living roofs, we make a valuable contribution to the nature-inclusive city, while our mossedum roofs and garden roofs can be used perfectly as water buffers. This application relieves the municipal sewer system and actively reduces the growing flooding problem. On request, we can also produce bituminous roofing membranes that can be used for CO₂-reduction, as well as roofing membranes with smart energy generators.
