BREEAM steel construction, in-house assembly

The steel structure of the five halls of DSV Tholen will be delivered and assembled by Reijrink Staalconstructies bv, a total of over 3,700 tons of steel in 21 weeks of assembly time between the end of 2019 and May 2020. Project manager Nico van Drunen: "We are assembling under our own management including the hollow-core slabs. Each time we close a construction section on a weekly basis, so that other parties can continue."

The 90,000 m² new site of logistics specialist DSV is being built under high BREEAM requirements, with a BREEAM score of 70% for the steel construction. "The steel construction must meet 'Very Good,' with requirements that we can amply meet as standard, such as ISO 14001 certification and mileage registration," says Van Drunen. "The assembly is carried out in-house, with the hollow-core slab floors - for the mezzanines - not classified as delivery, but we take care of the call-off of the floors with short lines to client Unibouw and floor supplier Fingo. This approach is also standard with us. With our own crane and fitters, we assemble about 5,000 m² of steel structure - about 200 tons of steel - and 1,300 m² of hollow-core slabs per week." Parties such as roofers and installers follow in a "train" after that. "The schedule is running smoothly, although a wet winter like this is not always easy and hall construction is usually tightly scheduled. We started in week 48 and hope to finish in week 22 of this year."
