Easily through sheet metal: Metabo markets a battery nibbler and battery flat shears

Plumbers often work under difficult conditions. For example, they have to cut sheet metal for the chimney on the roof, or for gutters or window frames to size on site. "For that, our battery-operated flat shears are exactly the right choice," says Katja Stark, product manager in Metabo's Metal Competence Center. "It is agile and light. It allows the professional to adjust sheet metal on site." The new 18 Volt cordless flatbed shears SCV 18 LTX BL 1.6 cut flat material perfectly to size, but Metabo also has a new machine in the program for preformed sheet metal: the cordless nibbler NIV 18 LTX BL 1.6. The cutting direction of the nibbler can be adjusted in steps of 45° to a total of 360° without the use of tools. "For machining corrugated and trapezoidal sheets, for example, the cordless nibbler is exactly the right choice," says Stark. "And in the process, the nibbler cuts absolutely without sparking or the action of heat. As a result, the material is not deformed and the paint or coating is not damaged."

Lots of power and low weight

Both machines are particularly powerful thanks to the brushless motors - but are nevertheless firmly in the hand. "The nibbler and flat shears are real lightweights. With their slim handle and the switch at the top, operation is very easy and flexible," Stark says. Depending on the application and task, the speed of the machine can be infinitely adjusted. Both machines are also highly maneuverable. In installation, ventilation and maintenance companies, the professional can also cut small radii from 15 mm to size with ease using the compact flat shears. For notches, cutouts and radii from 40 mm, the cordless nibbler is the right choice.

Quickly changed

Changing cutting direction in hard-to-reach places? That's no problem with the cordless nibbler. It doesn't even require any tools. "Simply turn the die carrier 45° in the desired direction and then work can continue immediately," Stark says. And the punches and dies can also be changed without the use of tools. "Both are made of high-quality material and are therefore particularly durable," Stark adds. The same applies to the battery-operated flatbed shears: with its four-fold reversing blade made of hard metal, it ensures the best cutting quality. And if one side does become blunt after a while, the user can simply turn the blade 90° - and use the other, still sharp side.

Protects man and material

As it moves up and down, the battery-powered nibbler forcefully digs through the sheet metal. "In the process, the machine punches out small, crescent-shaped chips," Stark explains. "The included chip collection bag reliably catches these chips. It protects the operator and the material remains undamaged. Because if the chips are left on the roof, for example, they very quickly rust, damaging the coating and leading to corrosion at the contact surfaces." Safety is also written in capital letters with the flat shears: a chip guard protects you from the sharp edges of the chips and prevents injury.

The new battery-powered flatbed shears are not only a true lightweight, but can also be operated very easily thanks to the slim handle and switch on the top.

With the cordless nibbler and cordless plate shears, Metabo is further expanding its program for cordless plate processing. In combination with the cordless circular saw for metal MKS 18 LTX 58, the cordless drill BE 18 LTX 6 or the cordless rivet gun NP 18 LTX 5.0, Metabo offers professional metalworkers everything from a single source. In the Metabo 18 Volt system, more than 90 machines are currently interchangeable with each other by using one battery and can be combined at will. With the Cordless Alliance System (CAS), this even applies manufacturer-wide to more than 160 machines and devices.
