From oak to hardwood, softwood and hardwood: Van Apeldoorn & Faber HOUT BV is a specialist in the supply, installation, maintenance and renovation of wooden floors and parquet floors, in various types of wood. From the Amsterdam branch, seven certified parquet workers realize private and business floors every day in, for example, the expressive Amsterdam canal houses. "Since the beginning of this year, we have also been active in the project market," says DGA Dennis van Kessel. "Because this market requires a specific approach, we have established a separate BV for this purpose: APFA Project BV. This allows us to excellently meet every flooring wish and need."
The success story of Van Apeldoorn & Faber HOUT BV began in 1985, when Andre Faber and Arnoud van Apeldoorn started felling coniferous trees (Douglas fir and pine) on the Veluwe, destined for Houtwerk Hattem. A sawmill and planing mill soon followed, becoming independent in 1999. A merger with brother Bart Faber's parquet business followed, after which Van Apeldoorn en Faber HOUT BV devoted itself entirely to the sale and installation of wooden floors. An office and showroom are set up on Utrechtsestraat in Amsterdam, where customers can still view the wide variety of wood species, laying patterns and colors. "All our wood species are carefully selected, have a high quality and can be FSC®-certified are delivered," Van Kessel emphasizes. "Unique in our range, for example, are the floorboards from the Danish company Dinesen Flooring, of which we have been Certified Craftsman since 2018. The floorboards are distinguished not only by their high-quality appearance, but also by impressive dimensions of 45 cm wide and up to 15 meters long in one piece. The floorboards can also be laid in combination with underfloor heating."
"Besides the larger canal houses, our floors are excellent for the project market, where we work on behalf of and in cooperation with architects, property developers and contractor parties," Van Kessel says. "For example, for the realization of office floors, store floors, showroom floors and restaurant floors of 500 square meters and more. A characteristic of the project market, for example, is that a high-quality and cost-efficient floor must be realized within a very short lead time. The team at APFA Project BV can provide this perfectly. Meanwhile, with PON Holding's showroom at Stadionplein in Amsterdam and Oogcentrum Noordholland in Heerhugowaard, the first projects have been successfully completed."
Wood floors can be laid in various ways: fixed to the subfloor, glued or clamped and possibly in combination with underfloor heating. "For each location, we identify the best laying method," Van Kessel emphasizes. "Moreover, we are responsible for the final finish, which suits the space and meets all the client's wishes. Before completion of a project, we always give maintenance advice, so that users can keep their floor in top condition in the long term as well."
