In 1946, L. Maars Sr. started the company with four employees in a building on one of Amsterdam’s canals. What began at the time with fluorescent lighting fixtures has grown into a global specialist in modular wall solutions. In 2026, Maars Living Walls will celebrate eighty years of innovation, growth, and international expansion—with its headquarters and production facility spanning over 40,000 m² in Harderwijk serving as its beating heart.
Maars operates in a wide range of sectors: from modern office buildings and international airports to high-tech factories, schools, retail stores, hotels, and public institutions such as museums and government buildings. The walls create a sense of calm in open-plan workspaces, a sense of prestige in boardrooms, control in cleanrooms, and comfort in hospitality environments. Wherever aesthetics, acoustics, fire resistance, and flexibility come together, Maars offers a solution that is both functionally and visually compelling.

Maars“ product line is modular, versatile, and tailored to any space requirement. ”We offer glass, aluminum, and steel partitions in various configurations: single- or double-glazed, or solid,“ says Xander Bernaards, Sales Manager for the Netherlands. ”Our iconic product lines include the elegant lalinea design partition, the transparent Panorama glass partition, and the robust and versatile String² partition.” In 2022, the portfolio expanded to include the Core cube and Halo office pods—compact, stylish pods that address the growing need for focus, collaboration, and hybrid work. Each innovation is a response to the changing demands of architecture, interior design, and user experience.
For decades, Maars has been at the forefront of both technical and aesthetic innovation. In 2018, the company introduced a fully automated sheet metal processing machine, which made the production process more efficient and minimized waste. Maars is also growing steadily on the international stage: following earlier expansions into the Middle East and the Americas, a second production facility will soon open in North America to enable even faster and more flexible delivery. A new milestone will follow at the end of 2025: the commissioning of the company’s own glass-cutting machine. “This will allow us to produce complete wall solutions in-house from now on,” says Bernaards. “In addition, we’re starting to wrap aluminum and steel profiles. This allows us to maintain acoustic and fire-resistant performance while also adding the warm appearance of wood—without compromising on quality.”
From a canal-side building to a global player: Maars has been a pioneer in wall solutions for eighty years. What began with fluorescent light fixtures in an Amsterdam building has grown into an international brand that brings together design, technology, and sustainability. Today, Maars supplies high-quality walls with integrated technology to customers worldwide, and with the same passion as in 1946, it continues to build the future—innovative, modular, and groundbreaking.
