For over 50 years Faay Vianen B.V. has been dedicated to developing and producing sustainable and environmentally friendly partition walls. Walls with a solid core of flax. In the production, processing, maintenance and recycling of this material, water and energy are used sparingly. Moreover, due to the flax core, CO2 absorbed. In recent years Faay has put a lot of positive energy especially into reducing the environmental impact of its products and establishing the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). This has led to achieving the lowest MKI value in the market of just €1.42 per m2.
Using calculation models, the environmental performance of the flax walls was mapped by Hedgehog Company and determined in the (LCA). In doing so, a sustainability rating was calculated based on 26 impact categories. The LCA and data, recorded in the National Environmental Database, allows architects and designers to make environmentally conscious choices in the design of a product or further design. With the goal of minimizing environmental impact. That importance is becoming ever greater now that the limit value is likely to become stricter in 2025 (from 0.8 to 0.5). By applying FAAY walls, a very favorable Environmental Performance of Buildings (MPG) is possible and building owners have a good chance of qualifying for the G6100 or D6101 subsidies, for example. In addition, the low MKI score ensures that buildings can be built in accordance with BREEAM and LEED guidelines.
"For the Netherlands, we determine the environmental shadow costs through an MKI score, which is listed in the National Environmental Database. In this, we are a Category 1 product and therefore do better than the industry average. This is becoming increasingly important, partly due to the mandatory calculation of the Environmental Performance of Buildings." Johan Mellegers - Developer Sustainable Products at Faay
FAAY Vianen is the first wall producer in the world with a take-back guarantee for the circular (flax) core wall. The plasterboard and flax core are separated upon take-back, with the plasterboard being reused for new plasterboard, among other things. The released flax is pulverized and reused to have chipboard made from it. In the long term, Faay wants to reuse the collected flax itself for new flax walls.
