Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
"Of the material, 15 percent has been reused, in other locations but also partly in the building itself. Think, for example, of the gravel on the roof, which was washed and then reapplied. And 84 percent has been recycled as raw material, such as the aluminum window frames and glass," says director Kees de Groot.
For client State Property Management, sustainability and circularity were tied to the new design and implementation methodology of this renovation demolition. "This project had an exemplary function for the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf. Most demolition companies are already very far with recycling, reuse saves processing costs and saves a lot of usable raw materials. The trick then is to do it more and more high quality. That was one of the objectives here."
The demolition was preceded by a thorough and critical inventory of the property. "What's in there? What will come out? What can we do with it? And how should the staff deal with it? An inventory was made of what BAM wanted to reuse in the new design. And what do you come across along the way? Now everything is recorded in BIM, but especially with older buildings many things are not known, there are no records of construction at the time. We also had the demolition certified by the SVMS for the first time, which was a good learning experience for us." The demolition project was awarded the Statement Circular Demolition Project, belonging to certificate BRL SVMS-007. "That was proof for the State Property Agency and BAM that we met our objectives. We are proud of that, because circular demolition is an essential link in the circular economy to which we can make a major contribution in the future."
