Warm and comfortable indoor coat for Kruiskamp homes

High insulation value, at minimal space requirements

Housing corporation de Alliantie has improved and made 125 social housing units in the Kruiskamp neighborhood of Amersfoort more sustainable. Between October 2020 and December 2022, the homes were fitted with a warm coat, energy-efficient ventilation and solar panels. As a result, the energy label has gone from E, F or G to at least A or A+. In addition, living comfort has been greatly increased. "Insulating the facade made an important contribution to this, but was also complex," says Johan van Bijsterveld, Rayon Manager at Faay Vianen. "Because the monumental houses did not have a cavity, the options for facade insulation were limited. Our W'all-in-One® PG50 system offered an appropriate and effective solution for this."

The homes in the Kruiskamp have uninsulated exterior walls. "Because of the monumental status, nothing was allowed to be changed on the outside of these walls," said Van Bijsterveld. "Because a cavity was missing, only insulating on the inside remained as an option, but here, too, the options were limited." Because of the small house volume, space requirements had to be kept as minimal as possible. "No problem at all for our thin and prefabricated W'all-in-One® PG50 pre-wall elements, which manage to achieve an RC value of 1.95 m2K/W with only 40 mm PIR, 2 vapor control films and 9.5 mm plasterboard." The wall elements were attached to the facades by assembly company HB Maintenance and Management on battens (rachels) and with minimal resident disturbance, he says. "Pieces that were cut widthwise could be reused elsewhere. As a result, no material was lost anywhere."

Following on from the pre-walls, Faay also provided custom work for the insulated day edges, which are standard 36 cm wide. During the assembly of a test house, Van Bijsterveld noticed that many sawed-off strips disappeared into the container. "As an organization, we are highly committed to sustainability and reducing waste streams. For that reason, we offered contractor Rutges Vernieuwt to supply day edges with a width of 17 cm, as was required in most places. This saved not only waste, but also materials and costs. In addition, the work could be done much faster and more efficiently."
