Christina Aguilera would so sing a song about it: the beautiful new carwash of Loogman in Hoofddorp. On September 5, the company opened the doors of its new carwash. With two carwashes, forty vacuuming areas, thirteen matting machines, thirteen scent and wipe dispensers and six free tire pumps, the new location has everything motorists need for a good cleaning. Lowik Bouw of Almelo was responsible for the construction of the new building. Superintendent Erik Kok talks about the project.
"We do a lot of non-residential construction," he begins. "Think retail, gas stations and, of course, car washes. Lowik has a rich concrete history and that has helped us become strong in building car washes. For example, we used to build a lot of concrete basements for Vitens. With that work, we gained a lot of knowledge and experience that we can also apply to car washes. That's basically how we rolled into the world of carwashes."
Meanwhile, these projects are no longer a novelty for Lowik. "When you build a car wash for the first time, you have to scratch yourself behind the ears. How do you do it? Fortunately, in the meantime, it's easy for us. We have been building car washes for over twenty years. Now we do about three or four a year."
So it is not for nothing that Loogman Carwash comes knocking on Lowik Bouw's door more often. "About twenty years ago, one of our project managers came into contact with Loogman. That collaboration eventually led to us becoming a regular construction partner," Kok says. "What makes us a strong partner is that we are versatile and can move quickly. This allows us to take on all kinds of projects well. For Loogman, for example, we do everything from small jobs to complete new construction."
"We consider good relationships with our partners very important," Kok emphasizes. "We therefore like to work with the same parties more often. That makes cooperation on the construction site itself very pleasant, and that was certainly the case with this project. Actually, because of that approach, the cooperation always goes super, also with the client."
"A challenge with this project was that we were building against the property boundary," Kok says. "As a result, the facade had to be highly fireproof, and that required good mutual coordination on the layout of the car wash. Fortunately, this always goes in harmony. We are well attuned to each other." Still, there was no shortage of space. "The lot was so big that we had to build more than a car wash. That's why we attached another divided office and hall. That now houses KwikFit. Nice to build things that reinforce each other that way."
And that has worked out well, he notes. "We have received very positive feedback from the customers and the client. Nothing but praise. The best part, of course, is when the clients are happy with it. They ultimately experience what you have built. In terms of space and experience, the new car wash has just become super nice."
