Dekker Kozijnprojecten replaced 144 window frames during the renovation of the homes at the Hof van Descartes in Amsterdam. In addition, the company supplied and assembled window frames for the new homes being realized in the neighborhood, converted indoor balconies into interior spaces, and manufactured and supplied 40 dormers.
Dekker Kozijnprojecten regularly works on behalf of main contractor Dura Vermeer Midden West. "In this case, we were involved as early as the offer stage in 2018," explains project manager Ivo Middeldorp. "We came up with different shapes together and eventually made a trial portico. The project started in the fall of 2022 and then lasted a total of 50 weeks."
The nine residential blocks contain a total of 178 housing units. Originally there were 144, but the client chose to have the attic floors of the residential blocks also converted into housing. On this, the children of the existing residents are given priority. "There are 25 porches involved. We worked on each porch for two weeks. A total of about eleven hundred window frames made of Accoya wood are involved. Client Ymere chose this because this type of wood is very stable and low maintenance. We also converted indoor balconies into extra indoor space using timber frame elements. We prefabricated these elements in our workshop and stacked them on site. Around them we mounted trim made of wood and flashings. Finally, we made forty dormers for the attic floors."
After the engineering and surveying process of the frames is completed by Dekker Kozijnprojecten, the frames are produced by a partner of Dekker Kozijnprojecten. This is followed by assembly. "We worked here with a team of five of our craftsmen and one of our cranes. The crane moves along from porch to porch." Renovation in existing construction often presents logistical challenges, so did this project. The green strip provided the solution and the transport of the window frames, dormers and hsb elements took place before or just after the morning rush hour. The project was completed at the end of 2023 and the first homes have already been occupied.
