Flexible installation concept

Complete E, W and S installation for new headquarters and production site Jimmy Products

Total installer Barth Installatietechniek is providing the complete E, W and S installation for the new head office with associated warehouse and indoor production location of Jimmy Products at Dutch Fresh Port in Ridderkerk.

The installation company is Jimmy Products' regular installer and was asked to help think about the installations and associated permits in a construction team from the first sketches. Calculation and engineering manager Leonard van der Giesen of Barth Installatietechniek: "We immediately joined in as advisory installer in 2022 and engineered the complete package of technical installations. From the electrical installations, cooling, heating and ventilation to the sanitary installations, low-voltage installation and sprinkler system. Realization is in full swing; the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024."  

The office portion of the building will be heated and cooled with a VRF system based on a rooftop heat pump. For additional comfort, there will be a peripheral zone of underfloor heating along the north-facing glass exterior façade. The office is also equipped with the necessary control technology to efficiently manage installations. To supply the building installations and part of the production of electricity, the installed solar panels will provide some 825,000 Watt peak. The building will be delivered with BREEAM certification 'Excellent'.

Flexible

The production area will be built into the warehouse. There will be three kitchens, two of which will be completely finished and the third will be prepared for future expansion. Van der Giesen: "The production area is equipped with a rail duct system, which makes the building easy and flexible to divide and expand. Together with the client and all parties involved, we came up with an optimal climate control system so that the employees can work in a pleasant climate. As part of this system, we installed an air handling unit with cooling and heating. We connected this to air distribution hoses used to air-condition the rooms."

A challenging project

"Because we are dealing with a food production process, the installations must meet HACCP requirements. The production area will soon be thoroughly cleaned every night, so we are waterproofing the installations, taking into account the side effects of cleaning agents and ensuring that as little dust and dirt as possible can enter the installation. These kinds of concerns make it a challenging project."
