Sustainable elevators: STACK Rotterdam opts for environmentally friendly mobility solutions

The Mullerpier in Rotterdam is getting a new gem: apartment complex STACK. An essential part of this impressive building are the elevators, supplied by the leading manufacturer of smart mobility solutions Orona. What makes the elevators so special? And how does Orona bring its sustainability vision to life in this project? Tabo van der Veen, Field Manager New Construction at Orona, tells all about it.

STACK is a striking new construction project in Rotterdam, realized by contractor VORM. The building extends over 24 floors and provides space for various functions and residential floors. For mobility in the building, VORM chose elevators from Orona, with a lifting capacity of 1,000 kilograms (type S15). "Our elevators meet all the requirements of this project and offer maximum flexibility," said Van der Veen.

Sustainable thinkers

Sustainability is deeply embedded in Orona's corporate philosophy. "We always say: the greenest energy is the energy that is not consumed," explains Van der Veen. This is why Orona is also fully committed to sustainability in the elevator realization of STACK. Not surprisingly, the company was the first in the sector to obtain the ISO 14006 certificate for ecological construction. The elevators feature a "standby" mode: lighting and ventilation automatically switch off and displays dim when the elevator is not in use. This significantly extends the life of the components and reduces energy consumption.

All of Orona's products are manufactured entirely in Europe and the company has a headquarters and production site in Hernani, Spain. This ensures a high degree of control over the production process and a smaller carbon footprint. "And that makes us strong in both quality and sustainability," adds Van der Veen.

Proud of cooperation and results

Orona looks back with pride on its contribution to STACK and the close collaboration with contractor VORM. "It was a big project, both in terms of height and complexity," Van der Veen concludes. The challenge lay mainly in the limited space on the construction site and the tight organization of the supply of materials. Working with two teams doubled the construction speed. "The cooperation with VORM was excellent, everything went according to schedule. So compliments to VORM!"
