Exterior wall insulation as the key to an energy-neutral future

Since its founding in 2021, IBS Afbouw has positioned itself as a reliable partner in the finishing sector, specializing in exterior wall insulation. Managed by Marc Veenstra, the company from Winkel in Noord-Holland, the Netherlands, has since experienced impressive growth. "We do everything for quality. As long as we say we sell a Mercedes, we deliver it."

IBS Afbouw began modestly, but with the growing need for energy-neutral solutions, the company quickly caught on. "In 2016, we saw the rise of exterior wall insulation and dived fully into that," Veenstra says. The company now covers projects throughout the Netherlands, with a focus on the upper left. Veenstra's years of experience in exterior wall renovation form the basis of IBS Afbouw. Her expertise? "We deliver high-quality solutions that are functionally and aesthetically sound."

IBS Afbouw stands out not only for the high-quality materials it uses, but also for its constant focus on quality.

Building for the future

With a permanent team of six professionals, supported by a flexible shell of an average of seven additional workers, IBS Afbouw works on projects from 10 to 2,000 square meters. The company is known for its quality approach. "There are many companies that do exterior wall insulation on the side as a bonus. But we employ true professionals who know what they are doing," Veenstra says. That professionalism allows IBS Afbouw to take on projects from A to Z without compromising on quality. One of the projects Veenstra is particularly proud of is De Terp Children's Center in Wieringerwerf. This energy-efficient complex of more than 1,000 square meters was completed in 2024. "We did everything ourselves, from insulation mortar coating to stone strips and pointing," he says. The focus on sustainability is also reflected in the material choices, such as EPS mineral products, mineral stone strips or decorative plaster. These are not only energy-saving, but also lighter and therefore cheaper than traditional construction methods.

Benefits all around

IBS Afbouw stands out not only for the high-quality materials it uses, such as Sto Isoned and brick strips from Baksteen Holland Oudkarspel, but also for its constant focus on quality. "We have to get rid of those traditional building methods," says Veenstra, referring to the CO2 emissions of traditional bricks. His vision of the future is clear: energy-neutral construction must become the standard. And IBS Afbouw is leading the way in this: "It only provides benefits for both the environment and the wallet."

Investing in the team

Although the future looks bright, one challenge remains: finding the right professionals. As a solution to this shortage, IBS Afbouw focuses on attracting and retaining permanent staff and well-organized self-employed workers. "It is important to create bonding within your team so that everyone continues to work at the same high level of quality," Veenstra explains. With a strong focus on quality, sustainability and craftsmanship, IBS Afbouw continues to grow steadily. Ready to tackle even more challenging and sustainable projects in the coming years. And it does so with a beautiful vision: 'Building for the customer, as we would like it to be in our own homes'.
