Custom steelwork takes KIT Hotel to next level

Transforming a 1967 concrete tower into one of the most sustainable hotels in Amsterdam: that requires precision work and expertise. In the renovation of the KIT Hotel, Stalent BV plays a key role in the construction work and steel solutions. The result? A future-proof building that seamlessly combines sustainability and design.

Stalent BV is a construction company that designs, manufactures and assembles steel structures. With more than 14 years of experience, the company focuses primarily on residential and commercial construction. "We like to think along with our clients about practical solutions that fit complex designs," says Cees van der Bas, owner of Stalent BV. "Everything is worked out by us in BIM and we also make the detailed calculations ourselves. For that reason we always switch gears nice and fast. And that is widely appreciated by our clients!"

At the KIT Hotel, the collaboration began more than a year before implementation. Stalent BV worked closely with contractor Heembouw. "We were involved in engineering the design and coordinated everything carefully. It is important that precisely in the preliminary phase everything is well thought out and coordinated. That also made this renovation run smoothly and efficiently up to and including execution."

Precision work at height 

Stalent BV's contribution to the KIT Hotel is impressive. Van der Bas explains, "We installed a steel structure with trusses on the twelfth floor, from which the columns and glass facades hang. The construction extends to the second floor and had to be measured to the millimeter." 

The loose structural steel, the canopy, the steel in the elevator shafts, the steel structure at the eaves on the second floor, the assembly of Decomo elements as well as the planters were also provided by Stalent BV. "Renovation requires customization. That made this a challenging project with fine cooperation for a highly valued client," says Van der Bas. 

Future-proof steel 

With its opening in 2025, the KIT Hotel will be a green pearl in Amsterdam East. This project proves how steel structures can be functional and image-defining.
