All at once, all under control. Building logistics on 240,000 sq. ft.

At Logistics Park Moerdijk, Bouwbedrijf Vrolijk is building a 240,000-square-meter distribution center for DSV Global Transport and Logistics. The complex consists of ten halls, eight hall offices, a main office, a cross-dock and a parking deck for more than a thousand cars. There are also thirteen loading pits with a total of 190 docks. "This is without a doubt our biggest project to date," says general superintendent Kevin Baan. "In terms of size and logistical challenge."

Construction company Vrolijk was involved early on in the process and given room to help think about the technical details and feasibility. "That is exactly what we are good at," says Baan. "We build many distribution centers, so we know what works. And we always take the client step by step in the choices we make." The project is also well matched in terms of sustainability. The building will be realized according to the BREEAM-NL Excellent standard. That fits with the ambitions of both DSV and Bouwbedrijf Vrolijk to build future-proof and responsibly.

No hall the same

DSV Moerdijk consists of ten halls, together accounting for nearly 200,000 square meters of storage space. On top of that comes a mezzanine of 38,600 square meters. "No hall is the same," says Baan. "Some have large offices, others just plumbing. Nine halls are built in steel, one in concrete. Whatever is needed, we apply."

A total of 10.5 million kilograms of steel were incorporated into the building. That's no less than one and a half times the Eiffel Tower. And in terms of concrete, the project is also special. "We created the largest continuous concrete floor in the Benelux here," says Baan. "4,500 Trucks of concrete over 142 pouring moments. Those are figures to be proud of."

Strong together

Execution runs on a regular club of partners that Construction Company Vrolijk has worked with for years. "That makes all the difference," says Baan.
"Everyone knows what to do. That saves time as well as coordination. With a team you can build on, these kinds of huge projects are a gift."

Direction of delivery

In a few weeks, the roof will be closed and all the floors will be in place. Then the finishing touches will follow. Baan looks forward to that moment. "Then all the parts will really become one," he says. "We are all enormously looking forward to that." Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2025.
