More than a year and a half after the first pile went into the ground, passers-by finally get a good idea of what the Van der Valk Exclusive Hotel in Woerden will look like. The floors of the hotel along the A12 motorway are now complete and the roof was also closed in December. The hotel on the Mediterranean (the street) will have 125 rooms spread over seven floors, as well as a swimming pool, sauna and gym. And the well-known Van der Valk restaurant will also be part of the hotel. Large glass facades will provide stunning panoramic views of the Green Heart. In combination with the curved glass at the corners, a true eye-catcher is created.
The construction of the Van der Valk Exclusive Hotel in Woerden involved two facade builders, both of whom chose to work with Vandaglas: Rollecate for the two-story substructure with lobby, conference center, restaurant and wellness, and Lieftink Geveltechniek for the hotel room tower. "Both Rollecate and Lieftink Geveltechniek are well-known partners of ours," says René Goossen, Key Account Manager at Vandaglas. "Moreover, we are a familiar face for Van der Valk. For example, we are currently also involved with the Van der Valk hotels in Rotterdam.
Zoetermeer and Oegstgeest."

"For the Van der Valk Exclusive Hotel in Woerden, a TriplePerform XTR glazing was initially prescribed, which is distinguished by high light transmission and strong solar control combined with excellent aesthetics," says Goossen. "However, because of the many curved windows in this project, this was deviated from. At the request of the architect at P.A.M. Teunissen | Architectenburo, TriplePerform SKN 154 was chosen, which has excellent curving capabilities. The triple glazing also has a solar factor (g-value) of 0.26, which means that 74% of solar heat is blocked. This allows for significant savings in air conditioning usage, while 47% allows sunlight to pass through."
A characteristic of solar control glazing is its green tint, Goossen knows. "In contrast, our TriplePerform SKN 154 features a soft blue shine. This gives the facade an even classier appearance, which both the architect and end user are very charmed about. So charmed, in fact, that TriplePerform SKN 154 is often chosen in subsequent works as well."
Biggest eye-catcher of the building, however, are the curved corners with floor-to-ceiling curved glass. "The difficulty with curved windows of this size is to avoid distortion," said Goossen. "However, because our glass is produced in electric furnaces, where the temperature can be regulated precisely and at any point in the glass, such distortions are not an issue. This creates extremely tightly curved windows. Guests of the hotel who will soon be looking outside will not experience any distortion. Moreover, because the entire project was constructed in TriplePerform SKN 154, there is no optical difference between the straight and curved windows."
In order to install all the glazing in a very short time, both Rollecate and Lieftink Geveltechniek opted for prefabrication, says Goossen. "Our glazing was assembled in the facade factories and under the best labor and climate conditions in the facade elements, after which they were transported just-in-time to the construction site and hoisted into the facades. In June, the last elements were installed." The new Van der Valk Exclusive Hotel will open in early 2026.
