Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
An insulation company looking to expand its services and a distinctive building that was just the right fit for that expansion. These two elements came together during the renovation of the main building of Seasons de Trappenberg in Huizen. Van de Bunt Isolatie began with insulation work and ended with a complete facade renovation. As a result, the project aligned perfectly with the direction the company itself had chosen to take.
Van de Bunt began work at De Trappenberg on a task the team has been excelling at for years: insulation. PIR panels were installed on the first-floor slabs, and the covered balconies were insulated with climate foil and glass wool.
But Van de Bunt offers a wider range of services than just insulation. A few years ago, the company began offering facade renovation, says operations manager Gerald Overeem. “In general, in our line of work, we regularly encounter problems with cavity wall insulation, for example—and that’s often related to the condition of the masonry.” A well-maintained facade also protects the insulation. So Van de Bunt expanded its range of services.
The Trappenberg was one of the first major commercial projects in that area. The building, constructed in 1912, immediately presented the team with some surprises. “Some things you can’t see. You have to measure the hardness of the mortar or the moisture absorption of the facade,” Overeem explains. The building was cleaned and treated, broken bricks were replaced, and window sills were washed. Hard mortar had to be pried out rather than chiseled away. In addition, the chimney was renovated, and where necessary, the lead was replaced with a lead substitute. After about six months, the job was complete.
Both parties were pleased with the collaboration with Koopmans. At the end of the project, Van de Bunt was asked to also take on the garden walls. Van de Bunt wants to be able to offer clients an even more comprehensive package: the next step is to expand into installing window frames, so that the company can serve as a one-stop shop for facades and sustainability improvements.
