A new Loetje location opened in October 2025 on the Klinkenbergerplas in Oegstgeest. The restaurant combines the recognizable Loetje style with a unique waterfront location. The east, south, and west facades of the new building feature generous, continuous windows that follow the contours of the structure. Facing the terrace, three impressive lift-and-slide doors also create a virtually seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. Commissioned by Lieftink Geveltechniek, Vandaglas supplied all the glazing for this project.
The transparency of the facades immediately catches the eye. Windows measuring 3,190 x 3,786 and 4,201 x 2,993 mm offer guests a panoramic view of the surroundings. The lift-and-slide doors are also generously sized, with panels measuring as much as 3,537 x 2,349 mm. “The large dimensions and impressive weight of the glass panels and lift-and-slide doors placed high demands on the facade engineering,” says Jasper Tak, commercial technical advisor at Vandaglas.
Lieftink Geveltechniek brought Vandaglas on board for the project in early 2024. Based on the glass specifications, Vandaglas selected the appropriate glass types, thicknesses, and coatings. This involved considering not only the glass’s performance but also its processability. “It was important that the glass and the coating were also suitable for curved applications,” said Tak. “That’s because impressive curved panes were used at the corners. We developed several proposals for this.” A year later, Vandaglas was awarded the contract for the production and delivery of all the facade glazing. In total, this involved approximately 240 m² of flat glass and 13.5 m² of curved glass.
The dimensions posed a significant technical challenge. “With glass surfaces exceeding 12 m², we were really pushing the limits of what’s possible with standard glass assemblies,” says Tak. The logistics also required meticulous preparation. “The project involved several inloader panes measuring more than 3 x 3 meters. These panes had to be delivered to the construction site just-in-time via special inloader transport and unloaded immediately. The combination of size, weight, and a tightly scheduled installation made careful logistical coordination essential.”

Equally remarkable are the curved panes at the corners of the building. A smooth curve was essential to prevent optical distortion, and Vandaglas is clearly the right choice for this. “At the glass factory in Berlin—where our curved glass is manufactured—they use electric furnaces that allow for very precise control of the temperature during the bending process. As a result, the windows have turned out absolutely flawless.” The curved glass thus follows the curves of the architecture without disrupting the view.
Due to the large amount of glass, solar heat control was also a key consideration. Straight and curved TriplePerform SKN176 glazing was selected. The triple-pane glazing features a solar control coating that limits the influx of solar heat in the summer while retaining as much heat as possible in the winter. “The coating provides a light transmittance of 63% with a g-value of 0.35,” explains Tak. “This ensures plenty of daylight while limiting the amount of solar heat entering the building. The glazing is also equipped with warm-edge spacers. These insulating edge frames limit thermal bridges along the glass edge and reduce heat loss.”
As a result, the facade of Loetje Oegstgeest combines maximum transparency with thermal comfort and sun protection. It is a unique combination in which the technology is entirely dedicated to enhancing both the view and the architecture.
