Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
At the Seasons de Trappenberg residential care estate in Huizen, Voskamp Aluminium handled all the custom aluminum work on the exterior of the buildings. From dormer windows to loggias, the team manufactured and installed various aluminum components for the facades.
De Trappenberg is the transformation of a former rehabilitation center into a green residential care campus for seniors, where new construction and renovation come together. Koopmans Construction built 270 lifetime-adaptable apartments there, spread across seven buildings surrounding the historic main building dating from 1912. The site was given a park-like appearance with abundant greenery. The distinctive main building—originally built as a children’s sanatorium with white facades and red roofs—was preserved and repurposed as a health center. In addition, two guesthouses for people with dementia and a short-stay care facility were built.
Aluminum was used extensively on the facades. Voskamp Aluminium manufactured and installed the dormer windows, loggias, and parts of the facade cladding. Voskamp translated the architect’s design into solutions that could be manufactured and installed. Custom work was central to the project, with wall copings, frames, dormers, and flashing among the key components.

Many buildings are constructed using timber-frame construction. This requires custom aluminum work that not only matches the blueprints but also works in practice. “Tolerances in the structure aren’t always reflected in the drawings, but they’re definitely there on the construction site,” Van Kooten explains. On paper, everything seems to fit perfectly, but during construction, you sometimes encounter deviations. That requires a lot of attention. “How do you account for dimensional variations that aren’t indicated anywhere on the drawing? Sometimes something is beautifully designed, but it doesn’t work in practice. That’s when we make sure it works out anyway.”
Van Kooten speaks highly of the technicians who worked on the project. “They remained calm, collaborated closely with the client and the contractors, and ensured that the custom work fit perfectly on site. Hats off to them.” The end result is truly impressive. “When we look at what we’ve accomplished, we can all be proud of it. This project clearly demonstrates what we at Voskamp Aluminium do best: custom work that’s not only accurate on paper but also in practice.”
