Just like FIRST (Rotterdam), Hourglass (Zuidas) and the Booking.com headquarters (Oosterdokseiland) - at the time the largest office new construction in Europe - Linden fits perfectly into Van den Pol Elektrotechniek's row of prestigious projects. “Another great calling card,” says Jan van den Brink, Business Unit Leader Utility and project leader for the new ING office.
Linden, too, is a state-of-the-art complex with high-quality installations and extensive facilities. “In doing so, we deploy our broad specialty, which includes not only the complete E-installation but also the lighting, fire alarm and evacuation system, solar panels, charging stations, data installation, emergency power supply, lightning protection and cabling for the access control and alarm system.”
For the fire alarm system in the parking garage, Van den Pol uses LIST wiring with temperature sensors. “In parking garages that are partially open, ordinary smoke detectors can give unwanted notifications. That's why we recommend thermal detection in these locations.” Emergency lighting is another crucial safety feature. Linden will have as many as 650 emergency lighting fixtures. “These are continuously monitored via a wireless SmartScan platform. This makes it immediately clear when maintenance is needed.”
Construction logistics listen closely. “There is very little space. All materials are delivered just-in-time and transported to the right floor as quickly as possible.” Van den Pol is used to such guidelines. “Experience with inner-city projects also pays off here.” To achieve the intended speed and quality, Van den Pol applies pluggable installation. “In the market this is still seen as special, for us it has been standard operating procedure for years.”
It is a great advantage that many construction partners know each other, Van den Brink states. “With installation manager IMWes and W-installer Klimaatservice Holland, we have successfully completed challenging projects before. Dura Vermeer is also a trusted party, including from the NoMA House in Amsterdam and its own office new construction in Utrecht.”
Linden's complexity places a heavy demand on everyone's knowledge and skills. “The atria and many level differences place high demands on the engineering of our installations. Think of the fit-out of the lighting. This is integrated into the shell and then included in the construction process all at once. This requires a thoughtful approach; everything has to be right.”
