From transformer to site lighting

Sligro's distribution center in Veghel is being expanded with a new section for so-called slow movers: items ordered less frequently and sorted by the piece. The new picking system is being connected by Pcdata Logistics Automation in collaboration with Gedo Elektro and forms the heart of the operation in the 15,000 m2 largely refrigerated expansion. Electrical engineering therefore plays a major role in the new building, where Gedo is active on almost every square meter.

Gedo takes care of the complete electrical infrastructure in the new building. “We connect the new main distribution box from the transformer, to feed all further electrical installations in the building from there,” explains André Ketelaars of Gedo Elektro. “Among other things, we realize the power supplies for the cooling and climate control installations and the fiber optic and copper cabling for the data network. The data installations are linked to Sligro's two data centers at the Corridor and Doornhoek locations, to guarantee the progress of the process at all times.”

Besides the energy and data infrastructure, Gedo also installs various security systems. These include the fire alarm and evacuation system, the burglar system, an observation system and the emergency lighting, part of which is connected behind an emergency power supply. Ketelaars: “We also connect the lighting fixtures placed by third parties and install the control system for this. We also provide the sound system for public address and music, which will be linked with the other buildings on the site.” Almost the entire building is pre-engineered in 3D, so that all installations can be coordinated as early as the design phase. 

Outside the building a lot of infrastructure is also being realized, including the cabling for the data and observation system, including license plate recognition, the cabling for the gates/barriers and the connections for the site lighting. According to Ketelaars, Gedo's strength in this project is not only in the technology, but precisely in the cooperation. “Gedo Elektro has been a regular partner of Sligro for many years. We also have a long relationship with our subcontractors. We know each other through and through. That trusted basis ensures that quick switching can be done when needed.”
