Specialist in roof and wall sheeting combines speed with quality

How do you ensure that a construction project continues without delay, while space is limited and multiple parties are working simultaneously? When expanding Sligro's distribution center in Veghel, Hardeman supported the main contractor in putting this complex puzzle together. The roof and wall cladding specialist ensured that the work was carefully coordinated.

“From the moment the project was entrusted to Hardeman, the focus was on streamlined execution of the roof and wall sheeting,” says Leindert Terlouw, work planner at Hardeman. With a background in hall construction and agriculture, this project was taken up with conviction. More than 15,000 m2 of steel roofing was laid and the facades were clad with sandwich panels of varying thicknesses. “This variation was necessary because of strict insulation and fire requirements, as well as specific cooling zones within the building. It results in a robust and well-insulated shell.”

Preparation and logistics

According to Terlouw, the biggest challenge was not so much in the technology, but in the preparation and logistics. ’In consultation with main contractor Cornelissen, it was determined in advance which facade was to be built and when the materials were to be delivered. Deliveries closely matched the assembly, allowing work to proceed continuously without congestion on the construction site.“ According to him, the project can best be described as a large coloring sheet that had to be colored in together. ”During the shell construction phase, we were already thinking ahead to the work inside. Here, too, coordination with other parties played an important role, such as in the realization of the freezing cell and installation of the sprinkler system. Through good cooperation, the overview was maintained and everyone was able to carry out their work at the right time.“

Hardeman proved lord and master at combining speed and quality. The roof was made wind and watertight in just four days. “At peak times, 4,000 m2 were assembled before noon,” Terlouw looks back. “The exterior walls were ready within three weeks, the interior walls and ceilings within four weeks, including finishing. By carefully planning the work, the momentum was maintained. The end result therefore underlines how important good preparation and cooperation are on projects of this size.”
