Dutch carpentry factories join hands

"Every day our professional employees are responsible for the sale, production and assembly of wooden façade elements of very high quality," says commercial director Victor Vos. "In order to fulfill this even better in the future and raise production and efficiency to the very highest level, the two companies recently entered into a special cooperation."

TimmerSelekt Doornenbal (Veenendaal) and Holland Houtwerk Kozijnen (Kaatsheuvel) are both part of the Redesign Group from Amsterdam. "We have always worked with an independent identity, i.e. with our own calculation and sales department, our own work planners and our own production. However, from now on the administrative part will be bundled," Vos said. "Moreover, the ambition for the future is to have the production of wooden windows, doors, lift-slide doors and frames spread over two production locations. This will allow us to produce even more efficiently and respond to the shortage of skilled workers, which will only increase in the coming years. As organizations, we make practically the same products, using the same machines and the same spray robots. In terms of products and quality, customers will not notice anything of our new approach. However, our production and efficiency will be greatly increased, allowing us to be even more decisive and competitive in the market."

Modern thinking and working with wood

TimmerSelekt Doornenbal and Holland Houtwerk Kozijnen are both strong in small- and large-scale residential construction. "We work mostly on behalf of housing corporations," Vos explains. "In addition, we often and gladly work for developing contractors, by whom we are increasingly involved in projects at the preliminary stage. By being part of the construction team, we can contribute our knowledge and know-how at an early stage and help think about, for example, types of wood, detailing and finishes. We also like to think along about sustainability and possible recycling options in the future."

TimmerSelekt Doornenbal has always been at the forefront of the market with its own ideas and concepts, Vos emphasizes. "Modern thinking and working with wood is in our genes, with which we make an essential contribution to a green future. We were the first carpentry company in the Netherlands to switch to 100% FSC wood, laying a good foundation for our environment, the forests and the people who work here. Moreover, we are affiliated with the Stichting Garantie Timmerwerk (SGT), which introduced HOUT100% in September 2016. This quality mark stands for 100% craftsmanship, 100% security, 100% safety, 100% innovation as well as 100% sustainability; an ambition in which not only TimmerSelekt Doornenbal, but also Holland Houtwerk Kozijnen leads the way."

Responsible and meaningful reuse of materials

In addition to new construction, this focus on sustainability is evident in renovation projects, where circularity is a hot topic. "As organizations, we are actively looking for opportunities to reuse wooden windows, doors, lift-slide doors and frames at the end of their useful life in a responsible and meaningful way in the chain. Contractor parties who want to think about this are welcome to get in touch."
