In March 2019, Aan de Stegge Twello began work on the newly constructed Loods 5 home furnishings store in Duiven, knowing that the store, with a total area of 19,500 m², had to be completed by early December 2019. "Because of the holiday season, that was an important wish," he said.
And the construction company more than succeeded: on November 30, the doors of the home furnishings store in Duiven, Gelderland, opened. "We had already gained experience by realizing Loods 5's first newly built home furnishings store in Amersfoort along the A1 freeway," explains Maurice Smits, project manager of Aan de Stegge Twello. "This store we completed together in 2015 and is similar to the home furnishings store in Duiven."
The building site involved several lots, which Pilot 5 combined.
Both involve a two-story store of some 20,000 sq. ft., with space below at ground level for some 500 parking spaces. "In Amersfoort, we set up a construction team for the realization of the home furnishings store. This team also took care of the realization of the store in Duiven."
According to Smits, it is not only the location, along a highway, of both home furnishing stores that is special, but also the client itself. "We built both stores on behalf of Loods 5, which has since gained national name recognition. The first two stores were old factory buildings: the Bruynzeel factory in Zaandam and an IKEA building in Sliedrecht, but with the stores in Amersfoort and Duiven, the retailer now also has newly built home furnishing stores." In doing so, Smits enjoys working with the client. "Loods 5 can make decisions quickly. Partly because of this, it was possible for us to realize this store in six months."
The Loods 5 building in Duiven consists of two floors totaling some 20,000 m2.
With the arrival of this new construction project in Duiven, Gelderland, Aan de Stegge Twello has completed three home furnishing stores for Loods 5 in just under five years. In early March 2019, the construction company also completed the renovation and new construction of a home furnishings store in Maastricht.
"For this, we renovated the old Sphinx factories and linked a newly built part to it."
Aan de Stegge Twello carried out the construction project in Maastricht in between both of Loods 5's new construction projects. "That was because obtaining the necessary permits in Duiven was more difficult than we had expected," Smits explains. "For example, it involved different lots, which Pilot 5 combined. We started this project in 2017, but it wasn't until the beginning of 2019 that we knew we could start work on this new construction project. Then we were instructed that the store had to be completed before the holidays."
At ground level, there is room for some
500 parking spaces.
Smits calls special attention to the roof of the home furnishings store in Duiven. "At the request of Loods 5, we gave this roof more mass in the form of concrete. This allows for a more pleasant indoor climate in the store, increasing the comfort for its visitors and employees and reducing energy costs." In addition, Aan de Stegge Twello has ensured that the entire surface of the roof can be equipped with pv panels. The panels will be installed on the roof in the course of this year.
