In the middle of the Botlek area, on Nieuwesluisweg to be precise, logistics developer DHG is developing a new distribution center: Smartlog 8. Commissioned by Goldbeck Netherlands, Preco delivered the complete concrete shell, including hollow-core slabs, beams, columns, stairs and landings.
Built according to the flexible Smartlog concept, the new distribution center consists of two nearly identical warehouses, each of around 25,000 m2. "We produced all precast concrete elements for the distribution center at our Apeldoorn plant," says Sven Janssen, project manager at Preco. "This includes more than 2,000 m2 of insulated wall elements and also about 2,000 m2 of solid walls. We also supplied 70 P&T elements for the purpose of the docks, 375 columns and 140 beams. We also produced the hollow-core slabs, both insulated and non-insulated, as well as the aforementioned stairs and landings."
Preco has significantly ramped up and expanded its production capacity in recent years to accommodate this type of project. "This is not only a considerable volume, but also the necessary diversity and complexity," Janssen knows. "Among the beams, for example, were specimens weighing as much as 18 tons with a length of 11.5 meters and a height of 1.39 meters, as well as having a ridge on the side. That brings with it the necessary complexity. This project shows what we as Preco stand for and are capable of as a total supplier of precast concrete. All elements were produced by us and then delivered in 250 loads."
