'Cooperation with local parties is going great'

Electrical contractor Velegro installed the electrical installation in the Nieuw Schuylenburcht social housing project in Oudewater. Basic facilities such as light and electricity were installed in the 69 apartments, communal meeting space and general facilities such as the stairwells. Site lighting was also installed and the company took sustainability measures such as PV panels on the roof.

Ron van Leeuwen is managing director of Velegro. The electrical installation company operates within the three main groups of residential construction, commercial construction (such as schools and healthcare buildings) and residential housing with a high level of finishing. "We have now been in existence for 28 years and employ 35 people on a permanent basis. In addition, we have a flexible shell of about 15 employees. We consciously choose to work with self-developing contractors and like to think about the installation from the planning phase. Generally, we carry out 80% of our work in construction teams or after one-on-one awarding by one of our long-term relationships."

Many local parties

Velegro's working area is a circle of about three-quarters of an hour travel time around home base Oudewater: the Green Heart and the Randstad. "We have known Bolton, the main contractor for this project, for years as a very fine cooperation partner and are active in the same region. In this case it was a tender, but we knew how to find each other well. We have a nice cooperation and working in the neighborhood is always great. This project involved many local parties anyway and of course we know them all," Van Leeuwen said.

Complete package

Besides lighting and electricity in the apartments and common areas of the four buildings, Velegro also picked up small jobs at Nieuw Schuylenburcht. Consider, for example, the installation of smoke detectors. Work began for the installer in April 2023, and Van Leeuwen expects to complete the project next summer. Until then, a crew of two to four people will be working on it.
