Contribution of Bouwstenen to roadmaps on making educational housing more sustainable

Bouwstenen's contribution to sustainability roadmaps for education housing

Achieving the climate goals also requires a change in the way we organize realization together. This can be read in the Bouwstenen contribution to the (sectoral) roadmaps for the built environment.

More customization
Energy and climate policy is based on agreements between the national government and local governments, but the elaboration of those agreements is organized too sectorally and top-down. The Hague approach does not sufficiently align with the real estate practices of municipalities, schools and other parties in social real estate.

To make real strides, a more integrated approach, more support, more room for individual interpretation and better cooperation between the various stakeholders is needed, the field concludes.

Public data
In the contribution from Bouwstenen, we outline the obstacles that the field is already encountering in realizing the climate goals and make suggestions as to how these can be resolved. We argue for simpler and easily operationalized final standards, making energy consumption in non-residential buildings public, and more and different forms of financing.

People's Work
In terms of implementation, we call attention to the people and use side of sustainability, acceleration in information exchange around practical climate solutions, and our own implementation organization. Due to the multitude of ambitions and expectations, more and more people in the implementation are falling over. That cannot be the intention.

More road maps
Bouwstenen was not formally asked to contribute to the roadmaps. That question has been put to 12 sectors in social real estate, including the VNG, PO and VO councils, health care, sports and the Government Real Estate Agency. They agreed to come up with a roadmap by May 1, 2019. The work field felt the need to have its voice heard as well. She hopes that her proposals and suggestions will be included in the further elaboration of the climate agreement. Therefore, it was widely discussed and presented to the industry associations, ministries and various other stakeholders.

Of course, we hope that the contribution from the field will also be widely circulated by you and we can work with you to give more shape and substance to the suggestions, including during the meeting on June 13 on the organization of maintenance and June 19 about useful information for sustainability.
