Danone, Hoofddorp | Dynamic lighting plan and LED lighting increase comfort in workplace

Energy-efficient and future-oriented customized lighting solutions

Daylight is an important factor in the realization of a healthy and comfortable indoor climate, but when there is not enough of that natural light, artificial light offers the solution. This also applies to Danone's sustainable office. TRILUX ensures comfort and well-being at each individual workplace with a dynamic lighting plan and accompanying LED lighting installation. This installation is fully integrated into the building's smart building system. As with most projects, the package here also consists largely of customization, for which the team from TRILUX Netherlands was able to call on the engineers from the parent company in Arnsberg, Germany.

For WELL requirements, luminaires must meet a high degree of color quality and authenticity. In this regard, the value of the red share (R9) in the LED module must be 50% or higher.

In the dynamic and increasingly complex lighting market, TRILUX stands for expert advice, optimum orientation and a perfect lighting solution. The German market leader for technical lighting solutions was involved in the project at an early stage. "We are known in the market as a player with expertise in lighting and building intelligence," says senior account manager Raymond van Dijken. "In addition to supplying the lighting fixtures, we support end users, architects, consultants and installers in a variety of ways, for example by drawing up lighting plans and calculations, providing technical lighting advice, thinking along in lighting management with links in a building management system and providing additional services, such as on-site light measurements for the purposes of the BREEAM proof load, installation and maintenance."

Lighting contributes to WELL and LEED certification

Thanks to its expertise in lighting and its smart control, TRILUX was commissioned by Terberg Totaal Installaties to design a dynamic lighting plan and accompanying LED lighting installation for Danone's new office building in Hoofddorp. After all, Terberg was responsible for the electrical installations and a number of additional user installations, such as a data network, an access control system, car loading facilities and a fire gas installation for the ICT areas. "As experts in lighting, we are happy to put our experience and know-how at the service of the installer. For this healthy and comfortable headquarters, we addressed all lighting challenges in close cooperation with Terberg Totaal Installaties. We have already brought several projects to a successful conclusion together in the past, so we know perfectly what we have to offer each other and always arrive at an optimal solution," van Dijken explains. "The biggest challenge here was in meeting the requirements for WELL in terms of employee health and well-being and LEED in terms of sustainability and future-proofing. We had to align our lighting planning and luminaire selection perfectly with both certificates. For the WELL requirements, luminaires must meet a high degree of color quality and genuineness. The value of the red share (R9) in the LED module must thereby be 50% or higher."

Smart technology

From a technological standpoint, Danone's office building is equipped with a smart grid (bGrid), which, among other things, controls temperature and CO2-levels. The entire lighting system, which was linked to sensors for daylight control, was also integrated into this smart building system. In addition, this system supports work processes with innovative apps such as "Find my colleague," "Roombooking" and "Worksplace Finding. "At TRILUX, we are proud to collaborate on such a prestigious project. More than 80% of all lighting was worked out by us. As with many projects, most of the work involved custom solutions. For adaptations of standard systems or the development of new solutions, we can always fall back on the expertise of our German production site," Van Dijken concludes. "After completion, we carried out various lighting measurements together with installer Terberg, which showed that the lighting perfectly meets all the high requirements for one of the most sustainable and healthy office buildings in the Netherlands."
