Sandwich element construction with an outer shell of HPL

The homes on Javastraat and surrounding areas are being fitted with new, larger dormers. Ruiter Dakkapellen manufactures, delivers and installs them.

Ruiter Dakkapellen produces 3,500 prefabricated dormers annually in its own factory in Ursem. "A large part of this goes through our own sales organization to private homeowners. Through the company Ruiter Dakkapellen Projecten, we also supply large numbers to housing corporations and contractors on a project basis," says commercial director Mario Bolle. 

Some 150 people work within the organization: in production, sales, showrooms or assembly. "We have our own assembly company, with our own equipment, our own people and a flexible shell. This way we work completely self supporting. The plastic window frames we install in the dormers we make ourselves from Gealan profiles. The large volumes justify taking production into our own hands. This is why we set up a modern plastic window frame factory five years ago."

High insulation value and airtightness

In the Javastraat and surrounding area project, the roofs are being completely renovated. Bolle: "There were small, outdated, plastic dormers on them. We were asked to make a proposal, taking into account the appearance, the requirements of the building regulations and the requirements of client Vestia. It became a sustainable dormer with a sandwich element construction and an outer shell of HPL. This construction gives a high insulation value, air tightness and a long lifespan. By choosing the right colors and materials, you still get a look that suits the house. The Rc value conforms to the Building Code: 4.7 for the sidewalls, 6.3 for the roof."

On this project, Ruiter Dormers also provided the installation. "When our installation crew arrives, the old dormer has already been removed and the insulation is over the recess. We cut open the recess and then we install the dormer. We do that at a rate of at least three dormers in one day and with our own crane." Rider produces just-in-time, so good planning is very important. The dormers are built modularly and assembled shortly before installation. "The daily production and lifting equipment are delivered and removed daily, so the required site space is very limited. Especially in older working-class neighborhoods, this is an advantage of prefabricated dormers."
