The former VNU office building in Haarlem-Schalkwijk has been transformed into an apartment complex with 162 apartments, called Ceylonpoort.
Polybouw Aluminium B.V. was contracted by SBB Ontwikkelen en Bouwen to provide the building with timeless and durable aluminum facade elements. The facade elements were powder coated in anthracite (RAL 7021) using PREANO+. Signal white (RAL 9003) was chosen for the roof structure. The profile series Hueck WS/DS 075, Hueck Trigion FS 050 and Hueck Voltao M+, all from system supplier Hueck Benelux, were used for the aluminum window frames and curtain walls.
The 51-meter-high building incorporates a total of 523 window frames and 68 curtain walls, divided between 162 apartments and the commercial spaces on the first floor. The north-facing facades and the entire first floor are fitted with clear HR++ glass, while the other facades are fitted with solar control HR++ insulation glass. The glazing is equipped with a high value in terms of sound insulation.
In the preliminary stages of this project, the frames and glazing for some of the facades were assembled at the HSB supplier's carpentry shop. A number of wide panes also had to be glued into the sash to ensure strength in all weather conditions. For this project, the entire team at Polybouw Aluminium B.V. achieved an accelerated schedule.
