On May 20, HANOS opened its newest branch at Westermaat Campus business park in Hengelo. This is the 27th branch of the international catering wholesaler, representing some 17,000 square meters of catering supplies. In this way, HANOS serves catering companies in the Twente region that were previously dependent on the branch in Apeldoorn.
The building consists of two floors, which provide space for a distribution center and a self-service wholesaler with over 100,000 items. These include more than 16,000 fresh items, over 750 types of cheese, some 3,200 delicatessen items and over 10,000 non-food items. Workshops and master classes are also held regularly.
The design of this inspiring building for catering entrepreneurs was provided by Artec Architects. Technical service provider Hamer from Apeldoorn, located next to the HANOS branch in Apeldoorn, provided the design and construction of the electrical installation.
From energy distribution to outdoor lighting
Meindert Jansen, Operations Director of Hamer, is proud that his company contributed to this new construction project. "We work for HANOS more often," he says. "We were very pleased that we were also able to perform this assignment for our neighbor." Hamer took on the complete electrical installation, consisting of the power distribution, data installation, cabling of the camera, security and access control system, and interior and exterior lighting.
Design and drawing
"When we became involved in this project, there was already a basic design on paper," Jansen continued. "We further worked out this set-up for the electrical installation that we built ourselves, plus the electrical facilities for third parties. Think of HVAC installations and cooling. We also made the design and associated drawing work for the data installation and the grounding installation."
In late December 2018, Hamer began laying miles of cable and finishing it on the distributors, lighting fixtures, equipment and outlets for data connections, among other things. Jansen: "The installation for lighting, refrigeration and HVAC consists of a 1,600 amp main distributor and eight sub-distributors. We laid a total of about 1,250 meters of cable ducts and about 1,500 meters of power cables. The total of light and power cables comes to about 35 kilometers. To control the lighting, we installed a KNX system."

Data, security and lighting
In the new HANOS branch, Hamer also laid some 30 kilometers of data cable as part of the complete data infrastructure. This infrastructure is needed for the network connection of HANOS, plus the peripheral equipment needed for stock management and telephony, among other things. The data infrastructure also consists of five patch cabinets, 700 meters of fiber optic cable and 500 wall outlets. Jansen: "We also laid the complete infrastructure for cameras and access control. This includes 10 kilometers of data cable and 100 power points. Finally, we installed 20 light poles and 25 facade fixtures for site lighting."
Under control
Technically, the project was under control from start to finish. The time factor was the biggest challenge and required a tightly organized schedule. "We continuously coordinated the work with the client and parties involved," Jansen said. "Every week we met with the HANOS project manager, the construction contractor and any subsidiary contractors. That way we kept the lines of communication short and kept a grip on the planning." Jansen therefore looks back on the cooperation and progress of the project with satisfaction: "Thanks in part to good mutual communication, we delivered our work in just four months."
