High-quality insulation for cold stores and freezers H&S Coldstores

Successful project despite challenges

Roma Projects is the market leader in high-quality insulation construction for conditioned spaces. In addition, Roma Products has its own production lines for the manufacture of insulating industrial doors and enclosures. For H&S Coldstores in Beneden-Leeuwen, Roma Projects is building the complete insulation shell.

"We have been involved in the plans since 2019 and contributed to the design. Our relationship with H&S Coldstores therefore dates back to before the turn of the century. This project presented a challenge, however, because it was an accumulation of special requirements," says Paul Pallandt, commercial director at Roma Netherlands. First of all, permits had to be obtained for the lot. Then there was the fire department which set requirements, followed by the insurance company which came up with even stricter requirements. At a later stage, the decision was made to go for LEED certification, and to top it off, the corona crisis also affected the project. At the same time, the core values for the building - refrigeration and freezing - had to remain central.

Train keeps running

"These requirements had implications for panel thicknesses, insulation values, durability of materials and raw material re-direction. When the corona crisis came, prices rose and materials became more difficult to obtain. Still, we managed to guarantee that we got all the materials in time and were ready after the summer of 2022," Pallandt said. He is very pleased with the project. "There is a friendly, Brabant atmosphere. Contractors respond to each other so that the train keeps running. This shows once again that projects like this are best carried out in a construction team, where each has their own expertise."

Specialist work

All in all, this involves insulation of walls, floors, roofs and even roofing. This is built by Roma's expert team. Pallandt: "Building a conditioned environment is more specialized work than installing ordinary panels. Roma is actually a construction company that specializes in this. In addition, our division Roma Products provides insulated hinged and sliding doors. We offer everything under one roof and offer customization from our own factory."
