More storage capacity with the same square footage

At Vishandel Schot in Tholen, MEGA Magazijninrichting ensured that the space in the freezer was used optimally thanks to mobile shelving and roll-through windows for box picking.

"Initially, the fish trade asked for static storage, where you have fixed rows of racks with multiple aisles. I pointed out that 50% of the freezer space is not being used at that time. You have a lot of aisles, so you have to put a relatively large amount of energy into the freezer that is not being used efficiently. Because of this fact, a mobile storage system was finally chosen," says Jan Nieuwenhuis, senior sales manager at MEGA Warehouse Equipment.

Now only one aisle is needed. At Vishandel Schot, therefore, three trolleys were chosen that move the racks at the push of a button. Each pallet is now directly accessible. "For small stocks with a relatively low turnover rate, we created rolling windows on both sides of an aisle. The result is about two hundred more picking locations in the same number of square meters," said Nieuwenhuis.

Also for existing warehouses

In the future, the fish trade probably wants to expand storage capacity further. This is quite possible with the chosen system. Existing warehouses can also be fitted with mobile racking quite easily, which increases the storage capacity enormously. Nieuwenhuis: "Many people think it is only something for cold stores, but we see it more and more in normal temperature environments. It is the only solution where all pallets are directly accessible. People often think it's an expensive solution, but if you calculate it by price per m2 it's actually the cheapest solution. We sometimes see that companies have removal plans, but by doubling the storage capacity this is often no longer necessary. Companies can also come to us for used racking. We are not manufacturer-bound and look for the best and most practical solution that is feasible."
