Former V&D department store to be transformed into AIR Offices

Over 7,000 m2 of aluminum window frames, curtain walls and flashings

After several complex inner-city redevelopments such as Hudson's Bay in Amsterdam, the former V&D complex in Amsterdam and House Modernes in Utrecht, it was now the turn of facade builder J.M. van Delft & zn. of Drunen to build the former V&D in Rotterdam.

In the coming period, J.M. van Delft & zn. will focus on completing the existing floors, after which the assembly of the topping will begin around summer.

The former department store will be transformed into a multifunctional building including offices, retail, catering and a bicycle storage facility and will continue under the name 'AIR Offices'. It is one of the larger projects within the order portfolio of J.M. van Delft & zn. and the facade builder is therefore proud to have received the confidence of main contractor Visser & Smit Bouw B.V. and developer NEOO. It is allowed to provide the entire outer shell and the two-story elevation with genuine J.M. van Delft quality. With over 7,000 m2 of aluminum frames, curtain walls and flashings, this is quite a job. At the moment, assembly is proceeding steadily. The Schonenberg stores and the C&A will soon be occupied. With the demolition of the scaffolding on Hoogstraat, the building is becoming increasingly visible and a glimpse of the final facade can already be glimpsed.

Project Manager Albert Emmers: "The cooperation with all parties involved and in particular with the main contractor is going very well. In the coming period we will focus on completing the existing floors, after which we will start assembling the two-story topping around summer."

All in all, downtown Rotterdam will soon have a gem.
