From design to realization and maintenance of E-, W- and S-installation

'There's a lot of technology involved'

Barth Installatietechniek, commissioned by main contractor Cordeel Nederland, is realizing the E, W and S installations for Maersk's new coldstore distribution center on the Maasvlakte. The residual heat from the coldstore will be used to heat the offices and the adjacent cross dock. This saves some 200,000 kWh per year. 

Total Installer

As a total installer of electrical and mechanical installations, Barth Installatietechniek is constantly working on the latest innovations: from E-installations and installations for data and lighting to emergency power circuits and grounding and overvoltage installations. The company also designs and realizes complete security concepts, including burglary and fire protection, access control and CCTV systems. In addition, mechanical installations for climate and sanitary systems hold no secrets for the professionals of Barth Installatietechniek. The company trains professionals itself and is therefore a recognized training company. The proactive installer aims to unburden clients by creating, maintaining and inspecting installations in all types of buildings.

Multiple disciplines

"For Maersk's new coldstore distribution center on the Maasvlakte, there was already a design from the installation consultant. We made a technical design based on that," says project manager Joris Roozendaal of Barth Installatietechniek. "The project includes several disciplines for us: the heating and cooling installation, the sanitary installation, the rainwater and tap water installation and the electrical installation. We are applying two skids here: one for the heating installation and one for the cooling installation. On the skids is a heat exchanger as a separation between process water and water for heating and/or cooling of the climate plant. From the skid, the water is transported by pumps to the air handling units, floor heating and fan coil units. The skids are placed in the technology room on the second floor of the Frozen building section. We also provide the installation of the data system, access control and intrusion system for this project. Finally, we are installing solar panels on the roof."

'Nice project'

Barth Installatietechniek works closely with Van Kempen Koudetechniek, which supplies and installs the cooling system of the cold store/freezer. This system works together with the installation installed by Barth Installatietechniek. Roozendaal: "We use the heat released from the refrigeration system in the cross-dock and cold store. Among other things, to precondition the air so that less has to be done in the hall itself. A lot of technology is involved here, which makes it a fun project."

The new distribution center has huge dimensions, but the installer is not deterred by that. "We regularly do such large projects. In terms of technology, it's not even that complicated, there are just large distances to bridge. The cooperation with Cordeel is excellent." Site work started for Barth in July 2023. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
