The stairs, landings and ramps of Salt, Pepper and Blend were custom produced and supplied by Steenhuis Beton. The prefab manufacturer from Uithuizermeeden, Groningen, part of the BTE Group, uses sustainable production methods.
The exposed concrete work, including anchors, was delivered to the construction site ready-made and just-in-time for assembly. "The assembly planning is something for the main contractor; we created a buffer in production for this purpose, so that we could flexibly accommodate the production period of a year and a half with regard to transport and delivery," says sales manager Aeilco Holtkamp.
As such, Steenhuis Beton supplied 89 stairs, for example, including some specials. "In building Pepper, stairs with displaced steps were installed," says Steenhuis. A displaced step is a step of a staircase whose face is not parallel to the face of the step above it.
In addition to stairs and landings for the stairwells, Steenhuis Beton also produced and supplied ramps for the parking garage and bicycle parking. Sustainable methods are used in concrete production. "For example, we use crushed granite instead of river gravel as a base. Our factory is located near Eemshaven, where the crushed granite is delivered directly from Norway." Precast deliveries at the construction site will be completed in November 2022.
