Proven tunnel molding method ensures high construction speed in Gouda 

Gouda is working hard to provide affordable housing for young people. The new apartment complex 1828 Gouda will soon provide space for just that target group. Main contractor De Vries en Verburg engaged its reliable partner Casco Bouw Nederland for the tunnel construction.

Casco Bouw Nederland is known as an all-round concrete builder in residential construction. Once started as a specialized tunnel builder, the company has developed over the years into an all-round concrete builder. "In recent years, however, tunneling has again been in high demand and that still remains our first love," said director Jan Hokse. "We prefer to do the whole package and also provide formwork, concrete and reinforcement."

'We believe in chain cooperation' 

For Casco Bouw Nederland, 1828 Gouda was a project as the company prefers to see it. "We were engaged very early in the process, so that we could really think along about the design and process. This way we know for sure that we can deliver our best work, together with our regular parties. We really believe in chain cooperation," says Hokse. With De Vries and Verburg, Hokse enjoys working together. "The cultures of our companies correspond well. That works nicely."  

The project consists of two sections: the 14-story high-rise and six-story low-rise. "With our proven tunnel molding method, we achieve a high construction speed. For the high-rise we build one floor in six days and for the low-rise in five days. And then we immediately make sure that everything is wind and watertight. That way you can immediately proceed with the finishing work." 

Cramped construction site 

Casco Bouw Nederland has been involved in the project since October 2022 and may finally really start in March. "We have prepared everything to perfection. The biggest obstacle will probably be the cramped construction site. The plot is sandwiched between the railroad tracks on one side and a busy county road on the other, and there is also a school nearby. All those environmental factors make it quite a challenge. But that's what we're good at." The apartments are intended for young people between 18 and 28. Hokse: "Exactly the target group that now has a very hard time finding housing. In that respect, it's a wonderful project to work on."
