NewCold in Rheine opts for sandwich panels with anRc value of 12.5

NewCold is one of the fastest growing companies in advanced food logistics. The world leader's coldstores are largely automated, enabling scale-up and efficiency. Moreover, for the construction of its new coldstores, it is continuously seeking optimizations in sustainability, airtightness and energy efficiency. Whereas the existing building in Rheine (Germany) is still equipped with Industrial IND sandwich panels from Isocab by Kingspan, the expansion uses innovative Quadcore IND panels. Thanks to the 220 mm thick panels, NewCold benefits from an Rc value of no less than 12.5 m2K/W.

"As a result of the energy transition, the supply of green power is increasing," knows Andre Pes, Commercial Director Benelux at Isocab by Kingspan. "Grid capacity problems and gigantic price spikes are lurking as a result." A large cold store has the energy needs of about 2,500 homes, he says. "Multiply this by an average power consumption of 4,000 kWh for a four-person household, and you quickly arrive at a consumption of 10 million kWh per year. Taking into account rising energy prices - which rose to more than 5 times the price last year - an investment in sandwich panels with a high Rc value pays for itself ever faster. In the preparatory phase, we are happy to calculate the difference between various sandwich panels so that informed choices can be made from the outset."

The height in

Another trend Isocab by Kingspan is observing is the trend of high-rise buildings. "Because of the scarcity of available and expensive building land, more and more cold storage buildings are going up in height," observes Sales Manager Wim Polfliet. "This places new demands on airtightness, which our sandwich panels can meet without any problem. Such high-rise buildings have also been chosen in Rheine. The selected Quadcore panels also possess a high fire resistance of 60 minutes (panel thickness: 200 mm) and a provable fire reaction of B-s1,d0 (for panel thicknesses of 60 to 220 mm). This means that in the event of a fire, the panels are very difficult to burn, produce little smoke and do not exhibit any droplet formation."

Planet Passionate

Isocab by Kingspan continuously seeks sustainable solutions for tomorrow's buildings. "The construction industry is responsible for about 30 percent of all waste worldwide and a major consumer of raw materials," Pes knows. "In addition, the built environment causes 39 percent of our CO2 emissions. Percentages that need to be drastically reduced in order to keep our planet livable in the future." Isocab by Kingspan takes its responsibility in this with the group-wide Planet Passionate program, which focuses on circularity and reduction of energy, CO2 and water consumption. Moreover, a key pillar is circularity: keeping products and raw materials in the cycle for as long as possible. "Taking back our panels at the end of their building life is an essential part of this and is currently being investigated."
