Versatile plasterboard, hard as diamonds
From non-load-bearing partitions and pre-walls to structural walls, from homes to hospitals, hotels, schools and sports halls and from new construction to renovation and transformation, Knauf's versatile Diamond Board gypsum board comes into its own in every project.
"Diamond Board has been highly valued by processors and end users for fifteen years," says Niek Wouda, Market Manager Dry Construction at Knauf. "And for good reason. Because the plasterboard combines six specific properties in one product. This makes planning and assembly more efficient and orderly. Moreover, an economical solution can be realized by not using unnecessary material such as OSB, while taking the quality of the project to the highest level."
Processors can use Knauf Diamond Board on a substructure for non-load-bearing partitions and pre-walls, in applications where higher mechanical loads are expected. Consider, for example, hallways in a hospital, nursing home or school, where the walls must be able to withstand impact. "But it is also ideal in residential buildings," Wouda says. "After all, the walls stay nice longer and residents benefit from extra sound insulation. Thanks to excellent hardness/stability, objects weighing up to 65 kilograms can be hung per hollow wall plug. There is no need to use backing lumber anywhere, which means processors can save on materials at the bottom line."
Diamond Board has a higher plaster density than a standard plasterboard, Wouda emphasizes. "As a result, the board is enormously hard and impact resistant." Diamond Board is also an impregnated gypsum board with highly delayed water absorption. This makes the board excellent for use in wet rooms. In addition, it provides better sound insulation. "In combination with mineral wool from Knauf Insulation, a sound insulation of up to 67 dB is achieved in a standard configuration. Glass fibers and other additives in the cladding provide increased fire resistance. The exact performance for each wall system can be found in the recently introduced Knauf Planner Suite and with our KnaufZeker warranty, performance is guaranteed."
Thanks to the flexibility of Diamond Board, curved walls can also be finished effortlessly. Moreover, the board has a very modest expansion and contraction behavior. An expansion joint every 15 meters is sufficient, according to Wouda. "This allows for faster assembly, with significantly less chance of cracks." For those who also want to get the structural rigidity of the wall out of the board, for example in prefabricated timber frame construction or steel frame construction, Knauf offers Diamond Board X. "The term 'Diamond' is also carried through to our stucco materials. Earlier this year, for example, we introduced an updated MP75 Diamond; a plaster with increased surface hardness and compressive strength that significantly reduces the risk of dents, scratches and damage in stucco."
