At CPO Bakstayn, the quality must be high, but within the set preconditions. Moreover, there is sustainable and circular construction with prefab elements. This is where the wooden window frames and decking from Van de Stadt Houtimport fit in perfectly.
Dark Red Meranti was chosen for the interior frames. This wood is perfect for frames, windows and doors. Finger-welding and laminating it makes it less susceptible to warping and creates a more stable product.
Decking boards are made from Massaranduba. This wood is also very durable and easy to work with. Sipke Jan Schotanus, supply chain manager at Van de Stadt: "We profile the raw wood in our own workshop and provide it with grip strips externally. After profiling, a dovetail is milled into the wood, which is filled with epoxy and then dusted with wear-resistant filler material. That makes the boards less slippery."
All the wood is labeled PEFC100% or FSC100%, a guarantee that it comes from sustainably managed forests. This avoids deforestation and the raw material is demonstrably renewable. Schotanus: "Wood is pre-eminently a circular material and when it comes from sustainably managed forest, virtually inexhaustible. Also, wood is easy to repair and recyclable. It will play an important role within the circular economy." Various tools are used to provide insight into the potential of wood. For example, you can calculate the amount of CO2 captured for the wood needed for a project. Then you can compare it to products such as aluminum, steel, concrete and PVC. "Wood comes out as the clear winner here," Schotanus says.
Van de Stadt delivers the wood just-in-time to Van Baaren Aannemers. In terms of efficiency, this provides major benefits. The contact and cooperation with Van Baaren is going well, according to Schotanus. "Clear agreements are made and that is nice in these times."
