The Amsterdam new construction project KAAP, consisting of five buildings with a total of 70 apartments, is in full development. Crucial to its success is the contribution of Blom Elektrotechniek, which is responsible for a wide range of electrical installations. From piping to home automation, Blom Elektrotechniek turns all apartments into a safe and modern home.
Blom Elektrotechniek is a well-known name in North Holland. Over the past 50 years, the company has developed from just a local installer to an indispensable party on the construction site. "We are now truly an advisor to our clients," says board member Marco Dekker. "In almost 90% of our projects we are already involved from the design phase. In this way, we arrive at the most efficient solutions together with our clients."
Blom Elektrotechniek's involvement with KAAP began through a request from contractor UBA Bouw. After several successful projects, it decided to involve Blom Elektrotechniek this time as well. "Our thoughtfulness, approachability and extensive know-how are reasons why clients choose us," Dekker states. Those characteristics have once again led to a fruitful collaboration at KAAP.
"Almost everything Blom Elektrotechniek does, we applied at KAAP," says work planner and project leader Daniël Tesselaar. "All the piping in the walls and ceilings has now been installed. Toward completion we are going to complete everything, such as the switchgear, lighting and smart and burglar systems. In the parking garage, we are installing a fire alarm system and gas detection system. Full infrastructure is also in place so that each parking space can be equipped with an EV charging station. All residential blocks will be equipped with a videophone system, an access control system, and a PV system will be installed on the roof. The homes will be equipped with extensive lighting installations, luxury switchgear and home automation and intrusion systems. All coordinated with the ultimate end users."
Besides realizing the technical installations, Blom Elektrotechniek also plays an important role in advising the future residents of KAAP. Tesselaar explains, "We have spoken to many residents one-on-one to provide customization to suit everyone's specific needs. Some residents want elaborate smart systems, for example automated curtains or control of lighting via an iPad on the wall. Others find a simple system sufficient. Because so much is possible, we presented the residents with all the different options; this way we can be sure that all wishes will be fulfilled."
Of course, KAAP's construction also had challenges. The diversity of the buildings and the unique layout of each apartment made it necessary to devise a customized solution for each home. "Challenges and opportunities are very close to each other," laughs Tesselaar. "Making each apartment as personal as possible was fun, but also intensive. This required a lot of precision." "And sometimes some sweat on our foreheads, too!" jokes Dekker.
KAAP is nearing completion, with the first delivery scheduled around Christmas 2024. Then Blom Elektrotechniek's intensive work will be over. "The fact that we were allowed to work so closely with both the contractor and the residents makes this project special," concludes Tesselaar. "Let's also not forget the beautiful location," adds Dekker. "This summer we are going to enjoy that a little more."
