Complete E-installation for media company office

SDR Elektrotechniek provides Mediavaert, the new wood-hybrid office of DPG Media in Amsterdam, with the complete electrical installation. This includes the complete high-voltage installation, safety & security (fire alarm, access control and loading and parking installation) and data and IT networks. In addition, the company realizes all low-voltage installations that interface with the building management system.

SDR Elektrotechniek is no stranger to media land. The company was therefore asked at an early stage to participate in the prestigious project. With a gross floor area of 44,000 m2, Mediavaert is one of the largest wood-hybrid office buildings in Europe and was awarded the BREEAM 'Excellent' label. Director of Projects Hussein Fahimi is proud that SDR Elektrotechniek was allowed to collaborate on this project. "This is a project that we are happy to add to our list of achieved successes. The BREEAM 'Excellent' label was achieved here in part due to the choice of materials, the working method and just-in-time delivery to minimize the number of transport movements and thus the environmental impact. The construction site is also neat and tidy."

The right knowledge and experience

A feature of the building is the variety of types of spaces. There are general areas, such as office spaces, there is catering and there are studios and areas where recordings are made and edited. Fahimi: "A great building, to which we were able to contribute with a lot of our expertise. We were also previously involved in various projects of the Media Park in Hilversum and still regularly come over here. So we have the right knowledge and experience. Although we also work a lot on new construction and renovation projects in the hospitality, healthcare and business sectors."

Mediavaert is a huge project and quite a bit of preparation went into it. "Plan preparation started two years ago, including engineers, modelers, work planners and buyers. In the stages of final design and execution-ready design, many more specialists were involved to bring the plan to execution."

Securing functionality

The installation is complex and must be properly managed. Two departments within SDR deal with these management tasks, service and maintenance: E-installation and safety & security. "This is how we ensure that the functionality will be guaranteed for years to come. We are satisfied with the course of the project. With such a large building, many operations take place every day. Especially in the final phase it is very laborious and sometimes stressful. We have worked quite a few hours with quite a group of people to get everything finished on time. So far, we have received all the cooperation and understanding from the entire construction team to be able to live up to our performance."
