Through the combination of exposed and concealed ceiling systems from Rockfon, each room of the renovated VDL headquarters not only the desired appearance, but also good acoustics and fire safety.
Due to VDL Groep's growth, the existing headquarters had become too small and needed renovation. When revitalizing the building, the Brabant family business chose Rockfon suspended ceilings. "We have been working with VDL for decades," explains Oualid Rouchdi of Rockfon. "This is partly because of our product availability: our products are always readily available. In addition, we have ensured a combination of exposed and concealed ceiling systems, giving each room the desired look."
This is a subdued and functional look, which is achieved in part through the use of panels with the concealed edge D finish, whereby the ceiling panels are one centimeter lower than the profiles, dropping them out of sight and creating a fancier ambiance. "In addition, the panels have the highest values in terms of acoustics and fire resistance," Rouchdi points out.
Office gardens without noise pollution
For the ceilings of the offices and boardrooms, VDL Groep chose Rockfon Krios tiles, says Stijn Kennis, who as project leader is responsible for new construction and renovation projects in VDL buildings. Thanks to an 86 percent light reflectance and class-A sound absorption, these ceiling tiles are particularly suitable in open-plan offices where many people work who do not want to be bothered by too much noise. In addition, the highest fire class A1 ensures fire safety. "Usually grid sizes in offices are 3.6 meters and only 600-millimeter ceiling tiles can be used," Kennis knows. "However, Rockfon Krios can be supplied in different sizes. These systems are ideal because they can be made to measure. In the renovated VDL headquarters, the ceiling tiles were made in multiples of 800 millimeters because this office has grid sizes of 4 meters."

Even whole thanks to concealed profile system
In the corridors of the executive department, these larger panels, equipped with the edge trim D, are installed in a concealed ceiling system where the panels are not visible. In this fully concealed profile system, which Rockfon developed especially for VDL, the ceiling panels are demountable for easy access to the installations in the plenum. A special system variant allows the main profiles to be spaced 1,800 millimeters apart, requiring fewer suspension points. "Choosing a concealed profile system is an easy way to upgrade a ceiling system by creating a more even appearance," Rouchdi said.
