Curved profiles for German highlights

On Dreieckshafen in Münster, Germany, a new office location is taking shape, with a slender high-rise and lower volumes at ground level. On the facade, curved aluminum window strips are combined with masonry accents. Brouwers General Bending supplied the curved window profiles.

At Brouwers General Bending, facades take on a dynamic character. The Belgian company from Herentals, founded by Edsko Brouwers, specializes in the bending of various metal profiles. With more than 30 years of experience in the sector, BAB provides customized solutions for construction, industry and interior applications.

BAB combines traditional craftsmanship with technology. The advanced Swiss-made bending machines make it possible to realize complex shapes such as S-curves, pointed arcs and oval-shaped profiles with extreme precision.

German client

On the Dortmund Ems Canal, on the Dreieckshafen, Ideenwerft Münster is being developed as a business campus. The plan consists of one seventeen-story tower and five lower three-story buildings. In addition to office space, the buildings will house functions such as catering, fitness and child care, with a parking garage underneath. “We previously worked for this client on a project in Cologne,” says Brouwers “Then we were approached again for the project in Münster, because we specialize in rolling more complex profiles.”

Brewers also rolled the full length several times.

Facade language, aluminum and clinker tape

The tower acts as a landmark on the harbor. The five low volumes provide scale at street level. The combination of high and low ensures that the large floor area, some 21,000 square meters, does not feel like one massive block. In the project, Brouwers worked with Schüco profiles at the client's request. The architect provided aluminum window strips and a clinker facade for the building. The project also has element facades with an integrated clinker band. Brouwers: “There must be no deformation, it must all remain very precise. You only have a few millimeters of tolerance.”

Curved profiles, place for specialist bending work

In this project, Brouwers bent some eighty lengths, a nice job for the company. “We also rolled the full length several times. The customer then puts intermediate posts between them himself, so it has to be cut into three segments again. Because we work with different techniques, we deliver the best results for that.”
