There is a severe shortage of senior housing in our country, and this shortage will only continue to grow in the coming years. Action is urgently needed, and Holikiday is eager to provide it. Founders Paul Rinkens, Henk Verheesen, and Joop Petit see a solution in clusters of care-ready housing for (vulnerable) people with limited financial means, located within their own neighborhoods. The goal is to build approximately 900 of these homes by 2029, in clusters of 24 or 48. The homes are being built by contractors Vlassak Bouw and Loca Bouw, who are collaborating with Hilhorst Tegels & Sanitair on the bathroom tiling.

For 65 years, Hilhorst has been the go-to place for tiles, bathrooms, and plumbing fixtures. With a team of up to forty skilled tile setters, the company has grown into a trusted partner for both small and large projects in Limburg. As a certified training company and the initiator of the tile setter training program (Bouwmensen Zuid), Hilhorst is also a key innovator in the labor market.
“We regularly carry out tiling work for both Vlassak Bouw and Loca Bouw,” says owner Gijs Hilhorst. “Based on the partnership we’ve built with them, we were also brought on board for the Holikiday homes. We submitted a proposal for the bathroom tiling and completed several initial projects, on the basis of which we were added to the construction team as a co-contractor. Bert Rietrae of BR BouwVisie is serving as project manager and construction supervisor for this project.” Following projects in places such as Sittard, Geleen, Brunssum, and Nuth, Holikiday homes will soon be completed in Nieuwstadt and Geleen, he explains. “We always work with dedicated teams and follow a set concept. As a result, everyone is familiar with the work involved, and the price, quality, and lead time are fixed.”

All Holikiday homes suitable for long-term care feature a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and a spacious bathroom. “To give residents maximum freedom in the design and styling of their bathrooms, we’ve opted for a neutral tile concept featuring modern and timeless white wall tiles measuring 15×30 or 25×33 cm and anthracite-gray floor tiles measuring 30×30 cm with a high slip resistance rating,” explains Hilhorst. “This simplifies both the installation and any repairs or maintenance. All tiling work is carried out on-site, where we work with a dedicated team of three to four professional tilers. Together, they complete ten bathrooms per week, ensuring the construction project stays well on track.”
