The former Paulus Lyceum on Wandelboslaan is being transformed into a modern vocational training campus for some 1,700 students. The original 1960 school building will remain the beating heart and will be supplemented with approximately 6,000 m2 of new construction. Van Hees Elektrotechniek will provide all electrical installations for this. From the basic facilities such as light and power to an intelligent light management system and modern fire alarm system with spoken word: the complete E-package will be redesigned and installed, matching the requirements of today and the monumental quality of yesteryear.
In the monumental part of Yonder Campus Wandelbos, characteristic elements will be preserved. The long corridors, stairwell and chapel will be given a prominent place in the renewed design. For Van Hees, this means that every cable route, recessed box and fixture is planned with extra care. Whereas in new buildings milling and drilling is usually free, a monumental building requires customized solutions that make use of existing shafts and cable routes as much as possible. Where necessary, subtle surface-mounted systems are used instead of radical cut-outs, and fixtures and switchgear are positioned in such a way that architecture and sightlines are maintained.
Today's education requires flexible spaces: classrooms change into project spaces, study areas become meeting places and practice areas have diverse usage scenarios. The intelligent lighting management system realized by Van Hees responds to this. For each room, functions such as presence detection, daylight-dependent control, scenes for tests or presentations and energy-saving dimming profiles are set. Via central management software, the administrator and facilities team can also easily make adjustments when educational functions or zone functions change.
The new building will be fully equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting. In the monumental part, the original atmosphere will be maintained wherever possible, with fixtures that are both aesthetically pleasing and technically up to current standards. In this way, comfort is combined with a substantial reduction in energy consumption.
A campus with hundreds of students requires a well thought-out fire alarm and evacuation system. Van Hees supplies a certified fire alarm system for this, coupled with a voice evacuation system. Instead of just sirens, students and employees hear clear, spoken instructions. This increases safety and reduces the chance of panic in emergency situations. The installation works closely with the installation consultant and construction team to ensure that detectors and speakers are logically integrated into the building and that the acoustics in the monumental spaces are optimized.
