Complete electrical and climate installation for residential care center

'Nice to be able to mean something to your fellow man'

Sister companies Elektroservice Holland and Klimaatservice Holland provided the climate and electrical installations for the new residential care center Villa De Plataan in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. 'It is pleasant and informal cooperation with local parties.'

The Villa De Plataan residential care center for people with dementia has 24 resident rooms, a guest room, a common living room and kitchen. The building was built by main contractor Blokland Bouwpartners. Gerard Mouthaan, project manager at Klimaatservice: "The climate installation is made up of a closed soil exchanger and two heat pumps in the building. The entire complex is equipped with underfloor heating and cooling. We started installation here in November 2023 and completion was in early July 2024."

'Quickly aligning business with each other'

After the installation was worked out according to the specifications of an outside consultant, work began on laying sewer lines in the crawl space. Once the structural shell was erected, the underfloor heating hoses were laid. Meanwhile, the soil loops outside the building had already been drilled and the technology room with heat pumps could be set up. Finally, the building was equipped with a demand-controlled mechanical ventilation system from ClimaRad. Rainwater is collected in the basement of the complex. This is then used for flushing the toilets and garden watering. Mouthaan looks back on an enjoyable project. "It was nice in the neighborhood and we worked with well-known parties," he says. "With our sister company Elektroservice, of course, but also with the local contractor. That went very informally and so we could quickly coordinate things with each other."

Intercom, fire alarm system and home automation

Elektroservice Holland installed a complete electrical installation, including lighting and data cabling in the residential care center. "There were partial management supplies for the standard components, but we took care of the rest, such as the emergency lighting. We also installed an intercom system, which is linked to the phones of the care employees," says Jan Blok, project manager at Elektroservice Holland. "They can use their phones to see who is at the door and also open it, regardless of where they are in the building. We also installed a fire alarm system with silent alarm. This means that care workers and the fire department are notified immediately, but no fire alarm goes off. This prevents residents from panicking unnecessarily." Finally, the complex was equipped with a small home automation system by Elektroservice Holland. This allows the care staff to control all the blinds via a central panel. So they don't have to visit all the rooms when residents can no longer do this themselves.

'Smooth cooperation'

Blok loved working on this project. "It's different from an ordinary project anyway. It's in our neighborhood, so it could just be that an acquaintance or family member could go there when needed. With our work on this project, we can mean something to our fellow man. The cooperation with the contractor, Klimaatservice Holland and other parties also went smoothly. We come from the same village and approach many things in the same way. No very long meetings, but just a quick chat in the construction shed and then on again. We know exactly what is expected of us, so we do what we say and say what we do."
