Modular construction in construction team
Construction company in ground, road and hydraulic engineering Kleywegen is involved in the realization of the student housing at the Leerpark in Dordrecht. The company applied soil improvement, laid the sewers and will take care of the site layout.
Kleywegen will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year and now has forty of its own people and a flexible shell of sixty. The company works frequently with Daiwa House Modular Europe/Jan Snel on projects including student housing, temporary school buildings and temporary housing for Ukrainian refugees. "We do everything in those projects outside of construction. It's all about making everything ready for construction and housing," says chief executive Emiel van Schaick.
For the construction of the student housing at the Leerpark, Kleywegen applied soil improvement. "We excavated the building pit and partially backfilled it with sand to get a good layer so that the piling work could start. Then we set up the construction site: from placing chain and building setups to water and power supplies. We also applied mixed granulate for the construction roads. By now, the final sewer has also been installed. We deliberately did that in advance so that we wouldn't get in the way during construction."
During the construction period, the pile driver went to work, after which the foundation was laid. Then Kleywegen returned for the next job: backfilling the foundation and connecting the sewer system. Once the residential buildings are in the completion phase, the final step will follow: site preparation. "We will install the paving and provide greenery and trees. We also place benches and trash cans."
This method of modular construction requires a certain sequence of work and tight planning. Van Schaick: "We work together as a construction team and watch each other in advance. That is a fine way of working together, which suits us well."
