Innovative transport and steel facades in University Library Amsterdam

Commissioned by BINX Smartility, facade builder JM van Delft & zn is currently working on the renovation of the University Library in Amsterdam. Its responsibility in this prestigious project is to supply and assemble all steel interior facades, including fire-resistant and arched facades and an imposing folding wall 9 meters wide. These versatile applications require precision and craftsmanship to match the modern look of the library.

What makes this project extra special is the unique way the materials are brought in. Given the location in the heart of Amsterdam, with its narrow streets and limited accessibility, all the facades and supplies are transported by boat. JM van Delft & zn plays a leading role in this by delivering all materials to a logistics hub. From this hub, they are further transported by water to pontoons at the construction site.

Thanks to close cooperation and clear communication with the general contractor, this challenging logistical process runs smoothly. This shows the importance of flexibility and cooperation within complex inner-city projects. For the facade builder, completion is in sight. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this year, so it looks back on a successful collaboration.
