Element façade Accelerator allows maximum daylight to flow in

On the access road to the Utrecht Science Park, the finishing touches are being put on Accelerator, an impressive and inspiring multi-tenant building for a variety of companies in Life Sciences. Main users of the cepezed-designed building will be biotech companies Genmab and Merus, which focus on the development of innovative therapies against cancer. On a floor area of over 20,000 m² and spread over 11 floors, various office and laboratory functions and meet & greet facilities have been set up, while the plinth provides space for a meeting center, an auditorium for 250 people and an extensive restaurant. During design and construction, sustainability, flexibility and a pleasant, healthy working environment were paramount. The element façade makes an important contribution to this.

Contractor BAM Bouw en Techniek recently achieved the BREEAM-NL 'Excellent' delivery certificate for Accelerator, with a score as high as 72.81%. Key design choices contributing to this include a spacious PV panel roof, heat pumps for heat and cold supply and plenty of greenery in the atrium. Commissioned by BAM Bouw en Techniek, facade builder De Groot & Visser B.V. also installed 7,620 m2 element facades from Hueck Aluminum Systems and 876 m2 curtain walls, ensuring a high level of daylighting.

Ready-made solution

"In a pleasant partnership with technical director Anco Bakker and the team at De Groot & Visser B.V., we provided the engineering and detailing of the element facades," says Rob van der Sloot, Commercial Director at Hueck Benelux. "In doing so, we not only had an eye for the architect's aesthetic wishes, but also for the static requirements and a sophisticated wind and water tightness. We were given ample time for preparation and developed a ready-made solution." Underlying the element facades are the Hueck Trigon Unit L profiles, which are distinguished by easy processing, optimized profile geometry and excellent thermal insulation. "In February 2021, the first element facades will be attached and we will have completed our work by the end of that year."
